My job falls between the Unitarian Universalist Association's official descriptions of "Congregational Administrator" and "Office Administrator."

  • Manage all office procedures, including facilities, scheduling, purchasing, etc.
  • Interact with church members, visitors, and the public to provide information about services, events, programs, and policies
  • Support minister and other staff in planning and preparing services, programs, and events
  • Compile, write, edit, format, and distribute publications, including a weekly and a monthly newsletter; posters and flyers for church events; programs for special events; bulletins for church services and other events, such as memorial services (Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint)
  • Serve as administrator for Realm church management system, including: managing permissions for staff and other users; training staff to use Realm; troubleshooting; implementing new features as they become applicable; collecting membership data; running reports based on standard and custom queries (e.g., standard membership reports and queries with specific criteria); collecting and analyzing giving data; customizing and generating giving statements
  • Support minister, staff, and church members in setting up and using technology, including hardware, software, and services (such as signup.com and Constant Contact). Make decisions about technology purchases and implementation (for example: researched, purchased, and implemented the Microsoft for Nonprofits program; currently migrating web presence and email to a new host, and all publications from Constant Contact to Mailchimp)
  • Manage church social media and web presence, including maintaining and customizing a WordPress website (from a theme developed by the UUA)
  • From March to August 2020, edited and produced pre-recorded videos for the Sunday service. Moderated Zoom services and meetings.
  • Use Photoshop and/or Canva to create graphics for social media, web, and print
  • Redesigned and refreshed all regular publications (newsletters, orders of service, etc.) to have a consistent visual identity
  • Customized and improved an Excel spreadsheet for the weekly deposit, using data validation and formulas to provide multiple checks throughout the data entry process and ensure accuracy
  • Co-manage a part-time Technology Assistant
  • Manage facility rentals
  • Manage building maintenance and upkeep, from hiring contractors to taking care of plants and wildlife

I copyedited and proofread materials for clients (mostly books and reports for O'Reilly Media). Worked with authors, editors, and production staff to mark up manuscripts for production.

  • Provided direct support to faculty, staff, and students in person, on the phone, and via email; used Request Tracker to track and report support tickets
  • Created and maintained websites, using XHTML, CSS, PHP, and MySQL; wrote and edited web content
  • Set up web space for users and performed other minor server administration (Solaris 8/Apache)
  • Consulted with users and assisted in creating and maintaining their websites, using a variety of technologies, including WordPress, Movable Type, Dreamweaver, Contribute, and others
